Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start in fourth grade! We spent our first days together learning about our classmates, classroom and school. We enjoyed many community-building games and activities. Our favorite activities included creating fourth-grade time capsules in math, decorating our writer’s notebook in writing workshop and exploring our classroom library in reading workshop.
I am also writing to give you information about homework in the upcoming weeks.
Reading Homework: Please have your child read quietly and independently each night for at least 20 minutes, Monday through Thursday, beginning Monday, September 8th. Some children choose to read the same book at home and at school. This requires the child to bring the book back and forth between home and school. Other children may prefer to read one book at school and another book at home. Beginning in October, students will also complete a weekly reading response homework assignment.
Math Homework: Children will complete one math sheet each night, Monday through Thursday, beginning Thursday, September 11th. The math homework sheet will be located in your child’s homework folder (The green folder with Koko on the front). In addition, please have your child practice his/her addition, subtraction and multiplication facts a few times a week, for five to ten minutes at a time. Please feel free to use flash cards or online fact games listed on my website: http://mswordensclass.weebly.com
Word Study Homework: Your child will complete one word study activity each night in his/her word study notebook (composition notebook), Monday through Thursday, beginning Wednesday, September 17th. This notebook is provided to each child and will have instructions for each activity on the inside front cover. Students will also have examples of each activity in the beginning pages of their notebook.
Other Homework: Last week, your child brought home a brown paper bag labeled “All About Me” with a specific date on the bag. Please have your child collect three items that tell about him or her to share with the class. In addition, please have your child complete “My Favorite Place in New Jersey” sheet by Friday, September 12th.
I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 18th! Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions. Also, please check out my website for updates, weekly homework assignments and helpful resources.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Worden
